Did you know your smile could be in danger while you play basketball? Well, it’s true, whether you like it or not. This is why it’s very important to care for your teeth and gums while you run, jump, dribble, and shoot. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Kurt Seidler, has some beneficial tips.
First, wear a mouthguard. A mouthguard can protect your teeth and gums when you suffer a blow to the face. If you don’t wear a mouthguard, there is a high chance you could experience an oral injury, like chipped, cracked, or knocked-out teeth and even damaged oral tissues. So, do yourself a favor and wear a mouthguard while you play basketball.
Second, drink water instead of sports drinks. This is recommended because sports drinks can promote cavities. This is because they are loaded with sugar. You don’t want a cavity, right? So, drink water instead. If you can’t, do your best to rinse your mouth with water immediately after drinking the sports drink or brush your teeth after your practice or game.
