As the fall season approaches, it is important to remember to keep your oral health care going strong throughout the season and into the holidays. With holidays such as Halloween fast approaching, the presence of oral health risks such as tooth decay will increase.

Tooth decay is a common health condition caused by the breakdown of tooth enamel. Plaque buildup within your smile is one of the main causes of tooth decay. The thin layer of bacteria that comprises plaque buildup can transform sugars found in sweets that are present in treats into harmful acid capable of eating through your enamel. We are not saying you have to avoid trick or treating or eliminating any snacks from your life during the holiday season though. However, use precaution and keep cleaning your teeth throughout the season.

Always remember to brush your teeth twice daily and floss at least once daily. Make sure to hit all areas of your mouth and take your time, as it is not a race. If traditional tools such as toothbrushes and threaded floss are not effective, consider switching to alternative tools such as electric toothbrushes and water flossers. Furthermore, visit your dentist every 6 months for a highly effective professional cleaning. For more help, schedule routine check-ups with your dentist.
